Family Coaching

with Christina Paul

I was hesitant about diving into a Family Planning session as I did not have much experience with working with anyone with my family for anything.  However working with Christina was a delight.

From our sessions I was able to get a clearer sense of my goals and also a view into my family members goals. The family really enjoyed the vision boards and we hang them in our house as a constant reminder.

Your Family is Your Team

Are you ready to step away from “getting by” and craft a coherent vision for your family? Get started with my free guide on how to define your ideal “wheel of life”, and craft a plan to help you get there:

I help families like yours align their finances, goals, and time so they can thrive, succeed, and get closer doing it.

If you’re here, then you’re here seeking more

You and your family are doing well. Nice house… good car… good schools… good job (s)…you are crushing it. So, why do you feel overwhelmed, unsure where the money and time go, disconnected, and unable to think straight right now?

Have a look and see if this resonates with you:

No wonder you feel fed up... running a family is exhausting.

You are always running around in “damage control,” solving problems and coming up with solutions for your family (with little time left for your own needs.)

You rarely have the time to fully connect as a family, let alone to step back and evaluate your individual and collective purpose, processes or assumptions, define long-term plans for your family’s future, make a plan or action, or set measurable goals!

You don’t want to be frenzied forever, but you aren’t sure what exactly needs to change…

The problem: You’re too caught up in the day-to-day minutiae of your family’s needs to see things clearly; too close to the demands of your life to plan for yourself, let alone get the whole family on board.

The solution: Create an opportunity to gain perspective and support as you evolve, reflect, and move forward with intention as individuals and as the team that you are. (Because YOU… ALL OF YOU…matter.)

Had enough with making do, doing the “right” thing that you’re not sure is really right for you? Here’s the truth: change is legitimately difficult – especially on your own.

That’s where a family finance and strategy coach can make all the difference. Let’s get you a wing (wo)man and set a course for a future that delights you, and sets you up for generations of success.

Ready to see for yourself?

Let’s craft a plan to create a future for your family that gets you so excited you can't sit still.

It's time to bridge the gap between surviving and thriving

Working with a family finance and strategy coach can benefit every area of your family life, from the short-term  (such as daily financial management or navigating family decisions) to the long-term (such as yearly goal setting,  long-term financial planning, growing closer as a family, and setting your family up for intergenerational financial security).

Here are some ways that coaching can transform your life:

Before

You are “getting by” in life, keeping your family (mostly) organized, and running around like a lovely but slightly deranged hamster. There’s no particular plan for the future because it’s hard enough to work out what’s going on this week.

After

You and your family has a plan for the future, easy routines for the day-to-day, and enough resiliency that you can adjust to changes without feeling like it might all fall apart.

Before

Your money seems to have a life of its own. Where does it go? Nobody knows. You’re saving for retirement, but you’re not sure if you’re on track. And oh, the kids need new shoes, and clothes, and class sign ups are this week, and what about that vacation?

After

You and your money are, if not besties, at least good friends. You know where your money goes, you know what your money is for (so it doesn’t accidentally go down the vacation or eating out drain when you need it for something else), you have a plan for your money, and you feel well supported and at ease financially.

Before

Money = Bees. When you start to think about your family finances, it’s like a swarm of bees fills your head and you can’t think straight. You’re not “good with money” or “good with numbers”. You don’t feel confident with your finances… maybe better to leave it to someone else. You can trust them… right?

After

You have a money beekeeper outfit. You have the tools to understand and handle your finances. You have a routine to keep tabs on your budget, short-term savings, and long-term savings. Over time, you build your confidence, and the mental buzz over money quiets into a hum of opportunity.

Before

Your family is full of love, but honestly, your family is like a bunch of comets zooming around, loosely associated with one another.  Everyone has different goals, and no one talks about or really thinks through what they are.

After

Your family functions as a team. Each person has a role and goals, and you also have strong collective goals. You all actively support one another in working toward their goals, as well as the common good.

Before

Your financial advisor tells you, “Just put away $ x,000 a year, and you’ll be fine.” And you nod, smile, and have ABSOLUTELY ZERO idea of how you’re meant to do that. Not to mention no tools to help you figure it out.

After

YOU have a long-term financial plan that you understand, and that feels manageable. It’s YOURS, not some platonic ideal of retirement savings. Your day-to-day spending is aligned with that plan. You feel confident and in control.

Before

Talking about money is THE WORST. If thinking about money brings bees to your brain, talking about it is like murder hornets.

After

You and your partner not only talk about money, you smile when you do it. You talk about pros and cons, options and decisions, and you come to a decision you are both okay with, and stick to. You are honest and transparent with each other about money. You accept your partner’s money habits.

Before

Your kids don’t understand money and have no power over their decisions about money. They think there’s none, or it grows on trees, or it’s a scary math thing.

After

Your kids are in the process of being trained about money. No matter how young they are, they are building their skills to be comfortable with money, plan for its use, save and spend according to a plan, and begin to understand investment opportunities and options

Before

You’re really hoping that your retirement funds last as long as you do.

After

Your family is a business, and the work of that business is to support you through old age, support your kids as they grow, and preserve intergenerational wealth as well as the tools to manage it. Your whole family works to support these goals.

Before

You are overcommitted and overwhelmed, but you feel like you have to just keep going.

After

You have a plan that ensures your family will be well taken care of, you get to opt into commitments, and you have a backstop to help keep you from getting overextended (again).

Before

You’re fully financially committed and need to stay in your job to keep it all afloat, even if it feels like it might make you sick.

After

You can get. Off. The. Hamster. Wheel. You have options that will still well support those you love.

What’s great is that you CAN make these “after” scenarios a reality, but it’s going to take much longer if you try to figure it all out for yourself (that’s just what you need – more items on your ‘to do’ list!)

So let’s dig into why my coaching program may just be the support system you’ve been looking for all along…

Hi, I'm Christina.

As a strategic planner and family finance and strategy coach, I have been guiding my clients through the process to envision, plan for, and create major change for 15 years.

I help cities, universities, and organizations make transformational plans that will guide their futures for years to come.

I’ve also been involved in organizational development, having trained with Peter Senge at MIT and as a coach at Cambridge University, and written strategic plans.

I’ve served on management teams, lead a 6-figure consulting company, and even worked a stint in advertising in Times Square.

I also have three children, a wonderful partner, and a dog that’s a living cartoon.

So why am I offering my expertise as a family finance and strategy coach?

Simply put, I care about you, your family and your unique path. I have been where you are, and I want to help you craft a family life that fills you all with delight, and sets you on the path to financial security and freedom.

While I love helping cities of 60,000 people build a better future, I also want to help families like YOU live your best lives.

Change starts with us, after all – at the personal level.

As a family finance and strategy coach, my private coaching mirrors the system I use as a strategic planner, crafting the futures of families like yous.

The big picture of my approach is simple: Envision the future you actually want, then map out the steps and personal work required to make it happen.

First, we talk about where you are now, and what your goals are. This includes all of your goals, including the ones you think you should have but might not want, the ones that scare you, and the ones that make you grin and do a little dance in your chair.

Then, we get specific about what your options are, and map out a plan to achieve your goals in a way that works for you and your current circumstances.

When the first round of planning is complete, we get into implementation, including working towards and even amending your goals as you learn and grow, as well facilitating the personal work you need to do to support the changes you are making.

This “personal work” isn’t necessarily about doing more, but about understanding how change happens, by respecting the process of change, and by working with yourself and your circumstances to support a change process. This takes repetition, and building an understanding of why you are doing what you are doing and how you might adapt to changes along the way. It’s good stuff.

P.L.A.N. Coaching

Can you tell by now? I’m a Planner – with a capital “P.”

I have a degree in Planning. It’s in my job title. As a coach, it’s what I do… I help you plan (and do).

I love helping people choose their own adventure, and crucially, I am not afraid of change. I revel in my ability to adapt to unplanned scenarios, changes and choices that come up.

So, let’s do it, let’s make a plan…

P

Present Circumstances

First, we’ll talk about where you are today, and what you feel needs improvement in your personal and professional life. We’ll explore the existing conditions that are causing overwhelm or frustration in your life, and better understand the circumstances that brought you to me in the first place. Where are the glimmers that guide towards your future self?

L

Looking Forward

After we set expectations for our work together, we spend time considering your passions and short / long-term goals. We ask: What lights you up? What motivates you? What options are available to you?

A

Action Mapping

Here we define the start-to-finish roadmap you’ll take in order to achieve the life and career we mapped out in step 2. You will be able to understand each step in the process, take intentional action, and update or expand on the map over time, as circumstances change or life surprises you.

N

Next Steps

Every journey begins with what? That’s right… the first step. Fortunately, you’re not alone here. I’ll provide ongoing support and accountability as you work to pick up momentum, one action step at a time. Throughout this process, we evolve as we work and learn, ensuring that your energies are directed towards optimum results for you.
